Raven's Story
Raven’s superpower is creation, and she means that in every possible sense.
She builds alternate universes out of stories she loves, imagining how things could have played out differently. She constructs Magic: The Gathering decks from scratch, including a five-color plus-one-plus-one deck she’s still perfecting, an idea she came up with herself after noticing what certain cards could do together. She designs Minecraft projects. She paints. She makes things out of, as she puts it, “seemingly nothing.”
“Games can go on for hours and honestly feel like five minutes,” she says. That’s what it looks like when someone is truly in their element.
“A lot of people may just look at those and be like, ‘oh, it’s just a dumb wooden circle.’ Me, I just feel like this could work for something that really matters to me.”

But one of the purest expressions of her superpower is something that might look simple from the outside: wooden coasters.
Raven starts with blank wooden circles and squares. She paints LGBTQIA+ pride flags on them, lines them, seals them, adds felt pads. What someone else might walk past without a second glance becomes, in her hands, a message, a reminder to anyone who picks one up that they’re seen, they belong, and what they are is not broken.

Raven also carries a clear-eyed understanding of what it means to live with a disability, and what it means to be around someone who does.
“Disabilities vary from person to person,” she says. “You can never truly understand, even if you share the same disability, because each disability has a spectrum. Don’t judge. Be patient. Lighten their load sometimes.”
Creation, for Raven, is never just about the thing being made. It’s about what that thing says to the person who receives it.
